Balaton

In 2015 Balaton will give place to the biggest International boilies competition, the International Balaton Carp Cup (IBCC). The event will be a great opportunity to get to know Balaton, the largest lake in Central Europe.

Balaton

First, researchers thought that Lake Balaton was 500 million years old. Later, as technology developed, scientist found that the lake was younger than they had believed.

Recent geological studies indicate that significant crustal movements formed the bottom of the lake at the end of the Ice Age. The northern fault line runs close to the northern coast, which is why on the lake deepens sharply on this side. On the other hand, the fault line in the southern part is much farther from the coast. The fault line between the two shores has been deeply and
slowly formed the lake ditch.

Lake Balaton is a freshwater lake in the Transdanubian region of Hungary. It is the largest lake in Central Europe, and one of Hungary’s foremost tourist destinations. The Zala River provides the largest inflow of water to the lake, and the Sió Canal is the only outflow.

The size of the lake is around six hundred square kilometers, which makes Lake Balaton the largest lake in Central Europe. the average water depth is 3-4 meter, and the maximum depth of the Tihany Fountain is 11.5 meters. The lake is 77 km long. Maximum and minimum width: 14 and 1,5 km, respectively. The total length of the shore is 196 km. Only 70 km of the shore is left in its natural condition.

According to test fishing results, the northern shore offers better fishing opportunities.

The success of fishing is influenced by several factors, including the flow of water in the lake, various meteorological and hydrological factors. The wind has a considerable effect on water movement. The strongest winds are mostly

The strongest winds are mostly north-west direction.

Fish management in Lake Balaton has changed significantly over the past two, three decades. The exploitation of fish stock has been reduced. Currently, there are 32 species in the lake. Researchers pointed out that in the mid-1990s there were 40 fish species. The decrease is likely to be the result of habitat alteration.

The main target fish in the lake is carp. Due to the increasing popularity of boilie fishing, carps over 10 kg are considered ordinary, but there is a good number of carps over 20 kg too.
